Set Your New Year Resolution with a 5K Registration Today!
Start your 2019 new year resolutions off with a registration for our 35th UTSA Alumni Diploma Dash 5K on February 23, 2019. Sponsored by Credit Human, Diploma Dash brings UTSA alumni, community members, students and even some canine runners together to participate in a certified 5K City Championship race around our Main Campus.
The race and festival begin at the UTSA Convocation Center, and participants are invited to stick around for a post-race celebration, with sponsors offering food and drink.
Diploma Dash began in 1985 and has grown into one of San Antonio’s largest chip-timed racing events. There are medals for top runners and awards for teams. It all benefits the worthy cause of helping UTSA students achieve their educational goals and graduate.
“The proceeds from the race go toward supporting scholarships for incoming and current UTSA undergraduate and graduate students,” said Steve Woodall ‘11, interim executive director of the UTSA Alumni Association. “The students benefit signifcantly from the show of support from everyone who comes out for this family-friendly run.”
Alumna April Ancira ’03 is the emcee for this year’s event. April is an avid runner and triathlon athlete in the San Antonio community and a dedicated supporter of UTSA.
Diploma Dash is a family friendly, stroller friendly and dog friendly event.

As we look forward to celebrating the UTSA 50th anniversary next year, we want to recognize the alumni who make UTSA special. Do you know an alumna or alumnus who is a credit to UTSA because of the difference they make in the world? Did you witness history when a friend achieved a UTSA first? We’re looking for the people who make us all proud to be Roadrunners. Tell us about them and they may be featured in 50 Roadrunners You Should Know in early 2019. Nominate a Roadrunner today at alumni.utsa.edu/50Runners.
UTSA 50th - Be seen!
As the university 50th anniversary approaches, we have a great opportunity for you to get involved just by sharing your early photos, stories or artifacts representing the history of UTSA. We are looking for photos for everything from building construction, students on campus (or Hills and Dales!), or the Koger Center. Send your photos to 50years@UTSA.edu and you just may see them included in our 50th celebration materials throughout 2019.
Feed Student Success
The UTSA Alumni Association is partnering with the Roadrunner Pantry to fill the shelves before the new semester begins next month. Food insecurity is an issue that affects many college students, leaving them worried about where their next meal will come from rather than how they are going to ace that test.
The Roadrunner Pantry is available for all students and provides both food and hygiene items. Since opening its doors in 2017, more than 5,000 students have benefited from the pantry. The beginning of the semester is usually a time when the pantry is scarce, yet need remains high. You can make a difference by supporting the pantry the following ways:
Donate Food or Personal Care Items
Katz Alumni Center
Main Campus, Bauerle Road Garage
Pull up outside and pop into the office with your donation
Make a Gift
Give Online – gifts are used to purchase additional food at below retail cost.
Thank you in advance for supporting our students who experience food insecurity. Be on the lookout for more details coming soon about an exclusive Alumni Association volunteer event to help stuff and organize the pantry.
The UTSA Houston Chapter is hosting a volunteer event for the Houston Marathon on Sunday, Jan. 20 from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 pm. UTSA Houston Chapter volunteers will be distributing water to the runners at the finish line. To register, contact Amber Measom-Kane ’03 at roadrunnerHTX@gmail.com.
