JANA KENNELLY Executive Director, UTSA Alumni Association

I’m excited to announce the launch of the first edition of News from the Nest; the official newsletter for UTSA Alumni Association members. We hope to bring you an inside look at your alma mater and make sure you are the first to know about alumni events. This month we welcome new leadership for both UTSA and the Association.

We begin September with heavy hearts for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Many of our alumni and students were directly affected by the storm. The Association is asking the Roadrunner Family to make a donation that will help provide emergency relief to our students in need so they can stay focused on school. Find a link below to make a gift.

This year the Association will be working to provide personal development and volunteer opportunities for you, in addition to hosting our traditional events. Come introduce yourself to the staff at our next Roadrunner Station on September 16th and we’ll give you a UTSA alumni pin. Remember we are here to serve you the member!

OUR NEW LEADERSHIP

Dr. Eighmy Assumes New Role as UTSA’s 6th University President

UTSA welcomes Dr. Taylor Eighmy as he begins his role as UTSA’s President in September. In a letter to staff he recognized the accomplishments of those who came before him.

“As I begin my service as UTSA’s 6th president,” said Eighmy, “I am struck by the words of Sir Isaac Newton: If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. UTSA is a remarkable learning and discovery enterprise and an outstanding example of a Hispanic Serving Institution. These things would not be true without the leadership and vision of the many giants who came before me, and I look forward to recognizing all the progress we have made when UTSA celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2019.”

The Association is excited to partner with Dr. Eighmy as he continues to build on the momentum UTSA has gained in academic and research accomplishments.

Waterman named Alumni Association Board President 2017-2018

September brings new leadership to the Alumni Association as Andrew Waterman ’03 assumes the role of Board President. Andrew has served on the Board of Directors since 2012 most recently as Vice President. While at UTSA, he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and served in student government. As Vice President of Operations for Journeyman Construction, he has over 14 years of project management experience. Andrew and his wife, Christie, met at UTSA. Christie works as an ER Nurse Practitioner with GSEP. They have three children Lucy, Roy and Henry.
Andrews priority for the next year is to engage the alumni members through development and volunteer opportunities. “I want the Alumni Association to offer our members ways to grow personally with opportunities to reconnect with their alma mater.” The Alumni Association looks forward to working with Andrew to implement his vision over the next year.
